Plowing and sanding

Snow plowing and sanding on city streets (Big Fox Road, Little Fox Lane, Haven Lane, Scheuneman Road, Tessier Road and Summit Farm Lane) is performed by White Bear Township Public Works. We request there be NO PARKING on any city street until it has been plowed curb-to-curb.

Plowing on the county roads (County Road E, Goose Lake Road, Labore Road and Otter Lake Road) is performed by the Ramsey County Public Works Department (651-266-7100).

Winter Parking Restrictions. The parking of any motor vehicle upon any road or street in Gem Lake is prohibited between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from November 1st through April 1st of each year.

Tree Policy

The City Council passed a new tree policy for the city in October, 2018. As part of the policy the city takes responsibility for: Trimming healthy trees that are in the cities right of away; Removing dead trees in the cities right of way; Remove trees that are diseased; If a tree is cut down the tree company, S&S Tree will grind the stump. The property owner can use the mulch as they want to.

Police -911

City police protection and traffic control is provided by the White Bear Lake Police Department 911, non-emergency 651-429-8511.

Fire -911

Fire and paramedic/ambulance services are provide by White Bear Lake Fire and Paramedic. Emergency 911, non-emergency 651-429-8511.

Public Works

Public Works emergencies are provided by White Bear Township. After hours and weekends 651-755-9828. Any emergency that happens during normal business hours should be reported to the City of Gem Lake 651-747-2790.

Public Works emergencies that threaten the health and safety of our residents or our infrastructure such as

    • Water main breaks
    • Sewer line back ups
    • Other emergencies

Animal Control

The City of Gem Lakes Domestic Animal Control Authority is through the White Bear Lake Police Department. For all non-emergent concerns, call White Bear Lakes Non-Emergency Line at 651-429-8511. For all emergent concerns, call 911.

All construction and remodeling work performed in Gem Lake must be inspected by one of the following:

Branches and lawn clippings

Ramsey County Brush Collection Sites will accept yard waste and all brush and tree waste from the ground up.  Roots and root balls are NOT accepted. The closest site to Gem Lake is on County Road J and Ash St.   Ramsey County Yard Waste

BURNING OF BRUSH OR TRASH IS PUNISHABLE BY FINE.
